BootLogo V 1.0 - Manual
NAME
SYS:c/BootLogo
SYNOPSIS
BootLogo
DESCRIPTION
Displays a nice picture during bootime. Designed for machines displying
a white screen during boottime. So you can see the machine actually
boots and does work. This programm is not serious. It's morly a persiflage
and suggested for fun rather then any purpose.
BootLogo works ONLY under AmigaDOS 2.0 and higher.
SOURCE
The source code is not included, binary only. Anyway, you would need
8 MB of RAM amount to compile it.

CHANGES
None yet. Initial Release.
PURPOSE & THEORY
When my Amiga is booting from Hard-Drive, the screen rests blanked
in white color. My Hard-Dive is very silent and sometimes i don't
know whether the machine actually DOES something. It seems to take
ages until the Workbench comes up. (I don't see the initial CLI,
removed all echos from the S:Startup-Sequence).
BootLogo solves the problem a bit. As it should be started as one
of the first commands in the S:startup-Sequence, it shows up
the Screen and displays the Image. When the Workbech pops up,
the Screen will be closed automatically, the programm terminated.
In fact, BootLogo removes itself when it's no longer the frontmost
Screen.
VERSION
Initial Release V1.0.
This Version is Compiled with Dice.
STARTING
You can try out BootLogo right now. Start it from the CLI by
typing 'BootLogo'. To Stop, switch the Screen with 'lcommand m'
back to the Workbench. BootLogo will be stopped soon.
The best would be to move BootLogo to 'Sys:c' and edit the
S:Startup-Sequence. One of the first commands should be
'RUN >NIL: BootLogo'. Best is to start it after 'SetPatch' or
even as the very first command.
DON'T forget to use RUN to start BootLogo in the S:Startup-Sequence,
otherwise you won't be able to either stop it and go on with the
boot.
Under AmigaDOS 2.0 it is recommended to use the S:User-Startup
for own purpose. Well, unfortunately this script is started far to
late for our purpose.
ARGUMENTS
None yet. It is planned to add IFF-parse support.
KNOWN PROBLEMS:
I do know of some problems and strange behaviours, some of them
aren't strange anymore, when you read this:
-During Boottime, the screen moves to the left.
This is due to IPrefs, which 'mounts' the ScreenModes and your
preferences. As we start before, the ScreenModes aren't known yet.
I do start BootLogo with the HIRESLACE_KEY for a ScreenTag, this is
supposed to be 640x512 as default size.
-I see lousy flickering on the Screen, what is that ?
Well, the Image is large, so i must use Hires-Interlace Mode.
-I can't see the Workbench during boottime ?
Wrong, as soon as ANY other screen pops up, BootLogo removes itself.
-Hey, BootLogo comes up, but then nothing happens. The machine seems
to hang, doesn't continue to boot.
Well, you probably forgot to 'RUN >NIL: BootLogo' in the
S:Startup-Sequence.
CREDITS:
Matthew Dillon for DICE. So I could make BootLogo be compilable in
the most common low-cost C-Compiler for Amiga.(Only registered version)
Stefan Becker, german and european distributor of DICE, who couldn't be
convinced to use ASwarm II ... yet :-) !
Ralf Spiekerkötter, who gave me the nice pic, thanks.
The unknown souls who crippled the pic from MS-Wind*ws.
Matthias Scheler, who wrote a simple form of this BootLogo.
Michael van Elst, sending me ilbmdump, so i could use the image
hardcoded.
Hm, is this a MUP ? :-)
